Mission: The Breen
Location: Captain Takahashi's Quarters

Captain's Personal Log,

Following the premature birth of my daughter, Kyoko... Well, call it postpartum hormones, if you want, but I've taken some time to seriously consider Starfleet's recommendations with having civilians aboard in wartime, and whether or not it's worth it to pull families apart over some... Over some bureaucracy.

I've arranged for an informal get together with Commander Ebisuzawa and Captain Beurling. I've told them nothing on my decision yet, and I hope they take my olive branch at face value.

I know I've been a hardass, and that they have every reason to doubt my intentions. Hence why I also invited Commanders Misono and Scott, so that hopefully this doesn't spiral out of control like last time.

End of log.

In all honesty, the beginning of Kyoko's life had been just as hard as Keisuke as it had been on Maho. Only new fathers realized just how much they took sleep for granted. Whether it was Kyoko waking both of them up at 0300 hours with a soiled diaper or Maho waking him up from a nap because she needed something, Keisuke was getting to know the insanely little amount of sleep a human could operate with.

So, when Maho had first voiced that she wanted to apologize to Commander Ebisuzawa and tell Captain Beurling that she didn't have to worry anymore, Keisuke had rightfully voiced that it was a terrible idea: Their quarters had admittedly fallen to shambles as neither of them had the energy to tidy up. But when one's postpartum wife made up her mind that she wanted to do so, there was little Keisuke could do to persuade her otherwise.

And so, Keisuke had spent the last half hour doing everything he could to get their quarters in a presentable state for guests while Maho had sat comfortably with Kyoko watching the MFG.

"Okay, I don't think we need to worry about the bedroom as much." Keisuke sighed. "I don't think anybody's going to have a reason to go in there."

"Only if I need to put Kyoko down for a nap." Maho responded as she bounced Kyoko up and down on her lap. "But the way she's acting right now, I don't think we're going to get that lucky..."

It was around this moment that Kyoko's fussing turned into whining.

"Feeding time again?" Maho sighed as she looked over to the Chronometer. "Well, I suppose I've got some time before our guests start arriving."

Maho grabbed the old throw blanket that had become her breastfeeding blanket and draped it over herself and Kyoko before proceeding to undo her tunic.

"Hey, babe; why don't you go ahead and put the kettle on?" Maho suggested. "Gonna need to serve our guests something."

"Start with tea and then see if there's a desire for food." Keisuke observed. "I'm good with that."

Alas, it seemed that they had far less time to prepare than initially anticipated as no sooner had Keisuke retrieved the kettle and set it down on the counter that the door chime to their quarters sounded, alerting them to what was likely an early arrival.

"I'll get it..." Keisuke grumbled. "Just stay where you are, okay?"

Heading to the door, Keisuke pressed the button on the control panel and the doors swooshed open to reveal Commander Misono.

"Commander:" Keisuke nodded, stepping aside to allow the Inuto in. "Glad you could make it."

"Nothing I can't make room out of my schedule for, Commander," Ichika smiled as she stepped inside. "Now, what was it that Captain Takahashi..."

Her voice trailed off as her gaze wandered to Maho, sitting awkwardly (OOC for Michael; you may change this adjective as you se fit. -Matt) on the couch, her upper torso swaddled in a throw blanket and a Kyoko-sized lump rustling from underneath; it didn't take a rocket scientist to recognize what Ichika had just walked in on.

"Umm..." She glanced back at Keisuke. "Should I come back?"

Maho made the best shushing motion she could given her setup to tell Ichika to be quiet.

"If you can't be quiet, then yes." Keisuke whispered to Ichika.

"Right; sorry about that, Commander," Ichika apologized, her voice dropping down to a much more appropriate volume. "And, uh... pardon the intrusion, I'll just step over here where I'm out of the way..."

Bree knew she was a bit early, but after debating whether she would be intruding, she finally decided showing up a little early would give her an opportunity to check on the new family perhaps before other business was discussed. She had purposely not reached out much since the birth, knowing it was important to give new families space to find their new rhythm. Confident that Maho and Keisuke would reach out if they needed help, Scott nevertheless was glad for the opportunity to visit and to hopefully get a glimpse of Kyoto too.

Scott approached and rang the door chime.

"Looks like we've got another one." Keisuke remarked, heading back to the door to open it for Commander Scott.

"Counselor:" Keisuke nodded, stepping aside once again. "Glad you could make it. Just, try and keep your voice down..." He motioned towards Maho in the middle of breastfeeding. "It's feeding time at the zoo..."

Bree chuckled. "If we're at the zoo, your daughter is still one of the most beautiful exhibits I've seen."

There was a soft knock at the door. Kurumi had chosen to knock, rather than use the chime.

"Apparently, everyone has to show up at feeding time..." Maho grumbled.

"I'll get it..." Keisuke grumbled, moving back to answer the door again.

There stood Kurumi, still in uniform as always alone. "I didn't want to use the chime. I know from experience it can startle newborns." She explained with a soft smile.

"Where's Yaeka?" Keisuke asked, looking around for the smaller child. "What we're going to talk about today does concern her:"

"She is being looked after in my quarters." Kurumi said. "She doesn't need to be here for this, trust me, its for the best."

"Hold that door!" Came a call from down the corridor.

It was Liz, the last person that was invited. In her rush, she had forgotten that she was still pregnant, and was out of breath by the time she reached the door.

"Sorry about that, Chief." She panted to Keisuke. "I saw Commander Ebisuzawa... Already here... And I didn't... Want to be late..."

"Well, you're the last one, Captain." Keisuke nodded, stepping aside and allowing Liz to step through once the Marine commander had caught her breath.

Maho looked to everyone gathered as best she could while she was still breastfeeding.

"I suppose that's everyone, then..." Maho sighed as Kyoko finally seemed to be done.

Quickly redoing her tunic, Maho was able to shed the feeding blanket and Kyoko was in plain sight once again.

"I'm sure everybody knows why we're all here:" Maho began. "It has to do with Starfleet's recommendation about civilians on board starships in wartime."

Ichika's brow perked up. "Captain, I believe we'd already discussed this at length-!"

"I am well aware that this subject has been discussed at length, Commander:" Maho replied. "However, in light of... Recent developments, and also Captain Beurling sharing with me her concern about potentially having to send her newborn son off to live with Vulcans who wouldn't view him favorably."

Liz nodded when Maho brought up the concerns she had brought forth. It was more or less what she had said, though how Timmy's grandfather and uncles would treat him was still greatly glossed over.

"And I've been reconsidering my stance on the policy." Maho concluded.

Kurumi smirked as she crossed her arms. 'I knew she'd give up on that once she had the baby...' she thought to herself.

"So, that's why I wanted to speak to you all:" Maho continued. "I want to reassure everyone that families on this ship won't be ripped apart by bureaucracy."

"What about the whole argument that you gave us?" Kurumi asked as she crossed her arms. She remained standing. "The whole speel that you were so adament on. 'Its safer for them'. All that huh?" Kurumi asked.

To be continued...
