Mission:
The Breen
Location: Maho's Ready Room
Timeline: March 25, 2397
It had been two days since the Breen's retreat. At last, things were quieting down aboard the Kaga. Having left her first officer in command, Koko had gone over to the Myogi to see how her friend and fellow captain was holding up. Stepping off the transporter pad and making her way towards the bridge, it was clear that the Myogi was more of a construction site than a Starship. There wasn't a place where work wasn't actively being performed between the transporter room and the bridge.
Maho had taken advantage of the downtime to spend some time with Kyoko. After having returned from the alternate timeline, Maho and Keisuke had replicated the 3D scan of Maho's pre-birth torso using the file that Ryosuke had provided. Once the scan had been replicated, Maho had begun the art project she and Keisuke had discussed back when making a cast of her belly was still on option, and that was tracking Kyoko's growth on the belly for her first nine months out by dipping Kyoko's foot in paint and marking the belly. If there was room leftover, Maho was planning to add two final footprints - one at 12 months, and another at 24 months.
Maho had just finished getting the paint ready to dip Kyoko's foot into when the ready room chime rang. She had been expecting a visitor, and since she was already standing, she merely turned towards the doors.
"Enter." She called out.
The doors swooshed open, and Koko could immediately tell that there was something going on that she had just walked in on.
"Maho..." Koko began. "Did I pick a bad time to drop in?"
"No, not at all." Maho replied. "Just a little late on getting Kyoko's two month footprinnt..."
"Has it been two months already?" Koko remarked.
"I know, it's hard to believe, isn't it?" Maho asked, dipping Kyoko's foot into the paint, eliciting an amused reaction from her daughter experiencing the silly sensation of getting paint on her foot. "She just turned it a couple days ago. Though, we were all preoccupied that day."
"You can say that again." Koko sighed as Maho placxed Kyoko's painted foot next to her previous footprint at 1 month. "Though, to be fair, we saved a lot of Breen that day. Word is that the Breen feel indebted to us for what we did, and are heavily weighing entering into our alliance."
"Well, isn't that something?" Maho commented as she began to wipe the paint off Kyoko's foot. "For once, I've actually done a good thing that won't land me before a JAG hearing."
Maho looked up from wiping Kyoko's foot to see that a mischievous smirk had grown on Koko's face.
"Something funny to you, Captain?" She asked.
"Oh, it's nothing:" Koko waved a dismissive hand. "I was just thinking that this will make for an interesting adaptation in the musical..."
"The... Musical?" Maho asked, seemingly not getting the joke.
"Oh, that's right; I haven't had the chance to tell you yet:" Koko said, realizing Maho genuinely didn't know what she was talking about. "There's a young librettist on Broadway who's looking to adapt your story into a musical. I know rap and R&B isn't your thing, but you've got to hear some of the demos I've been sent."
"Rap, huh?" Maho asked. "Is this librettist by any chance that chick who made a musical about the Mission District during the Breen Attack on Earth?"
"Mission Log?" Koko asked.
"Yeah, that's the one." Maho said. "Miranda, I think her name was?"
"Nemona Miranda, yes." Koko nodded. "And yes, she's behind this project that she's calling 'The Takahashi Mixtape,' but I suspect that name will be changing soon, since it's increasingly shaping up to be a full-on musical like Mission Log."
"I'm... Not sure if I should be offended or honored." Maho remarked.
"Well, if this pushes you towards one camp or the other- this was originally supposed to be about Taiga Aisaka." Koko revealed. "But, as luck would have it, you have a more musical-sounding name than she does."
"Oh, I can already hear her bitching and moaning that she isn't honored in a musical." Maho chuckled. "Especially if this musical about me is a runaway success like Mission Log was."
"This is Nemona Miranda we're talking about here." Koko remarked. "She's like the hottest thing on Broadway right now. Of course, it's going to be a runaway success."
Maho finished wiping off Kyoko's foot before moving her to her crib.
"So, Koko- is this just a social visit?" Maho asked. "Or is there more to it?"
"There is," Koko nodded. "But, I wanted to see you in person to discuss them."
Maho moved towards the ready room couch, motioning for Koko to join her.
"So, I take it then that you've contacted Command?" Maho asked.
"As soon as the Alita had you back under tow, I did." Koko replied. "They seem pleased that you're all safe and that the mission was a success. However, they want a full report from you as soon as possible."
"Soon as we can get our logs into a readable state, I can forward them to Command to start." Maho said. "Do they know about the Breen yet?"
"That was one of the subjects I brought up." Koko remarked. "It seems you've impressed them by what you've managed to do- bringing the Breen to the table."
"It was either that, or let them die." Maho remarked. "Seems like even the Breen have a conscience."
"Indeed." Koko nodded. "Command has also sent preliminary orders. We're still to proceed to the Algonquin Fleet Yards as originally ordered. From there, the Kaga will be tasked with overseeing the Breen's formal entry into the Alliance. Once the Myogi is fully repaired, they'll send you new orders. But it seems like they're cutting you a break for now."
"After everything we've been through, we could use the downtime." Maho sighed.
Koko nodded in agreement.
"Also, word is that the Corps of Engineers is working on a stealth ship designed for missions like the one you just undertook." She added. "If they could get their hands on your logs, I'm sure they would provide valuable R&D for them."
"R&D?" Maho questioned. "So, they're planning on making a new class from scratch?"
"Yeah, Admiral Vincent said that Starfleet needed a fast ship capable of going behind enemy lines. Possibly even a test platform for reverse-engineered energy-dampening weapons if the Breen are willing to cooperate. She mentioned calling it either the Khourani class or the Takahashi class." Koko explained with a wink. "But you didn't hear that from me."
Maho couldn't believe it: An upcoming Broadway musical and a new class of Starfleet ship were going to be named after her!
"Of course not," Maho playfully jabbed at Koko. "You never tell me anything interesting."
Koko chuckled as friends do when teased by friends.
"Oh, and one more thing:" She realized. "I'll be taking Williams back after we get to Algonquin, but I heard from Meadows that she wishes to remain aboard the Myogi."
"Well, we could certainly use a seasoned pilot like Meadows here on the Myogi." Maho agreed. "Honestly, that's a relief to hear that someone wants to stay after yesterday."
Koko was about to inquire as to why, but the chiming of the chronometer marking the top of the hour caught her attention.
"Well, I'd best be getting back to the Kaga." She muttered, standing up. "If you need anything, don't be a stranger, okay?"
Maho followed Koko to her feet.
"Hey, why don't you come over for dinner tonight?" Maho proposed. "I'm sure Keisuke would love to see you again, and his cooking's gotten a lot better since last time."
"You know what? I may just." Koko accepted. "I'm sure Banri won't mind taking the night off from cooking... Well, I'll see you later tonight, then, Maho."
Without another word, Koko left the ready room to start heading back to her own ship. Maho watched her leave before the doors swooshed shut behind her. Looking back towards Kyoko, Maho tapped her combadge.
"Takahashi to Takahashi: We're going to have some guests for dinner tonight. Break out the fine china..." She instructed.
