1,320 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: Indivisible
Location: Rheuys System
Timeline: A Few Hours After 'While the Iron's Hot"

The Nebula class starship USS The Sullivans A dropped out of warp in the Rheuys system. Not far behind was a force comprising of roughly twenty starships of varying types. It was about as much as Captain Violet Bluegarden could muster on such a short notice. Safe to say, Violet had to pull quite a few strings just to get this many ships.

The woman next to her was small, even in comparison to the Captain to the point where her chair was visibly lower than hers just so her feet wouldn't dangle a few inches off the deck. Such a difference for now Commander Shirley Onuei, "Captain, USS Myogi is within visual sensor range with her accompanying ships." The voice was still squeaky, but had mellowed with age.

"Excellent." Violet responded. "Hail the Myogi."

The dark-haired woman nodded and edged forward to the edge of her chair and tapped a few buttons on her arm console, "USS Myogi, this is Commander Shirley Onuei of the USS The Sullivans, Captain Violet Bluegarden commanding. We're here to help."

In the hours since the joint crew briefing, Captains Hartmann and Shokuho had confirmed that the Elachi had, in fact, returned to the Braxus system. The Kaiser had pledged an attack force comprising of five carriers and twenty five frigates; likewise, the Inuto Merchant Marines were all too keen on Ichika's offer to avenge Captain Felnoir's death, and had loaned them no less than fifteen D7s that had been operating in the immediate vicinity.

And now, here was The Sullivans, bringing with it a strike force of another twenty ships.

Lieutenant Moon was greeted with a flashing light on her panel, a label showing an incoming message from The Sullivans. Ji-hee turned towards the center of the bridge and said, "Captain.. Incoming message from The Sullivans." She patched the communique through the bridge's comms, allowing the crew to hear Commander Onuei's transmission.

"On screen:" Maho ordered.

The viewscreen changed to a view of the Nebula class bridge. The last time Maho had seen one, it was Commander Iwaki on the other side:

"Captain Takahashi:" Violet nodded. "I bring you tidings from the 16th Fleet."

"We appreciate the assistance, Captain." Maho responded.

"Have you located the Elachi?" Violet asked, cutting right to the chase.

"Captain Hartmann has confirmed that they have returned to the Braxus system." Maho explained. "We're ready to push off, if you are."

"Then let us be off." Violet declared. "Most of us are ready to finish this. Bluegarden out."

As the communications link severed, the view switched back to the fleet as it began to turn and prepare to make the jump to warp.

"Ops, open a channel to the Akagi, Kaga, Ermiana, Alita, and the Rheuysian fleet." Maho ordered

"Captain," Kurumi interrupted quickly. "I have another starship approaching. "Sao Paulo class by the looks of it. Those are fairly new, basically the souped-up redesign of the Defiant class."

A few seconds later the tiny starship that resembled a Defiant class, but with more curves and more streamlining dropped out of warp directly ahead of the Myogi.

Another message came over the communications network. Ji-hee saw the message was addressed directly to Captain Takashi. "Captain, a message for you from the incoming vessel. Patching it on screen."

The Ops Chief knew time was of the essence with all the ships gathered. She noticed the subtle design differences of the Sao Paolo class, curiosity tugging at her thoughts.

No style to flying those, Jane thought as she watched the Sao Paolo fly toward them.

On the screen appeared what resembled a modernised variant if the classic Defiant class bridge. In the chair sat a young woman with short brown hair, hazel eyes, a short stature and a smile. Three rank pips shone in the light from the bridge lights as she looked directly at Maho.

"Sorry we're late. Hope you don't mind, the Oorai is ready to assist you oneesan."

Maho's eyes widened and her jaw dropped out:

"Miho?" She asked. "What are you doing here? And weren't you-?"

Miho smiled nervously. "Surprise? I guess?"

"Friend of yours, Captain?" Ichika remarked, stealing a glance in Maho's direction.

"Try my little sister." Maho corrected. "Between her and dad, this is quickly becoming an affair of the entire Nishizumi family..."

Ichika smiled. "Well, whatever happens out there, at least you have the reassurance that you won't be fighting it alone."

"And the risk of losing those close to you..." Ami whispered quietly from her own seat on the bridge, glancing over the most recent set of readouts from the various major systems. A familiar pang twinged in her chest, the wish that her sister was here with her once more, but she was long gone except in her memory.

"Let's hope that doesn't happen." Maho muttered, her engineer having successfully planted the seeds of doubt.

Lieutenant Moon monitored communications between the assembled vessels. She occasionally tapped to acknowledge several comm checks, as ships preparing for the next step double-checked their readiness.

The Captain and Executive Officer's stations were set to broadcast mode. Once either gave a command addressed to the fleet, it would be broadcast across a secure network.

"Captain.. All ships report as ready and accounted for", Lieutenant Moon said as the adrenaline coursed through her body.

"This is Captain Takahashi of the Starship Myogi:" Maho spoke. "All ships: Lay in a course for the Braxus system and prepare to make the jump to warp."

“Course laid in, Captain,” Jane reported. “Fleet traffic signals showing courses being set by the rest of the fleet as well.”

Maho stood up, stepping to the center of the bridge.

"All ships:" She ordered. "Launch!"

With a few strokes of her console, Jane brought the Myogi past the speed of light and onward to Braxus, the fleet following closely behind.

Echoing over the comm was a squeakyish voice, "Task Force Sixteen Point One, formation Echo," Shirley had already gone over with Captain Bluegarden as for contingency plans if no specific formation had been ordered and the ships they'd brought along spread out to the wings of the overall formation in a screening maneuver, "Engage to warp as specified."

Ami monitored the ship's systems and nodded as she saw everything in the green, making a minute adjustment to the warp drive for efficiency's sake. These were just the jitters, they'd pass in time. They always did.

Ji-hee saw engine efficiency slowly rising on her Ops monitor. She looked over to Ami and saw her tapping away, likely making adjustments. Ji-hee smirked as she fought the urge to giggle. Her mind thought of how she could help the Chief Engineer get the most out of the engines.

Communications was drawing more power than usual because they were pushing short range comms to the max. Long range comms were normally used, often utilizing more passive methods of messaging. It was a miniscule difference, but enough to pester Ops and Engineering.

Lieutenant Moon worked on her own efficiency upgrades. She adjusted the computing calculating power rate downward by 7 percent and sent that energy back towards the engines. Along with Lt. Rori's adjustments, the effect was noticeable.

Ji-hee smiled towards her, briefly making eye contact before returning to study the displays.
