Mission:
The Next Myogi
Location: Starbase 234
Timeline: Just before the USS Myogi docking at Starbase 234
Master Chief Petty Officer William Pitsenbarger reread the orders on his PaDD; he was to return to the USS Myogi to become the Chief of the Boat. It was going to be his actual tour as a COB without a safety net or guidance. He was confident he would do well, just shocked he was going back to his old ship.
After his celebration party was over on the USS Caleuche he had boarded a long-range shuttle to Starbase 234. He arrived a week earlier than the USS Myogi. With the unexpected little leave, he had while waiting for the Myogi he decided to contact his son and daughter. The video calls were bittersweet, reminding him of how much he missed of their lives as he was galaxy hoping with Starfleet. Even though his children did not seem to resent his absences, it was hard not to feel that they did. He never regretted joining Starfleet, only the way it had affected his family and the cost of his marriage. All in all, though the video calls were good for his soul. His Son and wife were doing well and his granddaughter, Tennessee, was both a hellion and growing like a weed. Treyton, his son was doing very well with the law firm he was with, and his wife Arabella, was now a teacher. The two were also delighted to learn that Tennessee had been accepted into a primary school for the artistically gifted. William was also proud of this, after all he had several of her pencil and watercolor art pieces, for a child of seven she had great potential. His daughter had him concerned somewhat. Carsyn was a rising star in the Federation News Network, but apparently her spouse, a man William was not fond of, seemed to be slowly becoming an alcoholic. Carsyn stated she was on the verge of divorcing him, because of his chronic use of alcohol and increasing jealousy of her career, as his floundered. William told her that he understood and supported her in the difficulties she was having. He also told her that divorcing him would free her up, and that perhaps she should go live with her mother; he would offer her to come stay with him but the current an new directive that all civilians off active starships, she wouldn't be allowed anyway. Much to William's relief, never a good idea to have a news reporter on a ship snooping around with the potential of hostile contact; especially his daughter, she was a bloodhound about news stories.
William spent the rest of his short wait either in his senior enlisted transit billet going over the daily grind of paperwork that was the bane of all senior NCO and officers in Starfleet. Working out in the gym or playing his guitar in the observation lounge where he watched the ships coming in and out. One evening while strumming an aimless tune and sipping his ice water with lime and lemon he heard a familiar voice.
"Mind if I join you?" asked a musical and husky female voice.
William stopped his contemplative and aimless strumming and looked up. Standing nearby, wearing the new Starfleet Marine Corps camouflage uniform, was a female Orion, though William knew she was Orion and Vulcan hybrid. He smiled and replied "By all means, have a seat. After all we have chewed a lot of the same mud."
The female marine sat down across from him. "Long time no see Doc." she stated as she sat down.
William smiled and cocked his head to the side. "Let's see, last time I saw you Vespertine was what the Nelson?"
Vespertine smile "Yea, Battle for Cardassia. Nasty bit of business that was, Jem'Hadar were dead set on annihilation of the Cardassians and anyone else. Though I think the Siege of AR-558 was worse, that was one hell of a fight, the Dominion had the upper hand then."
William winced at the memories those battles brought back. As he looked at Vespertine, he noticed her rank was that of a first lieutenant. "See the Corps finally roped you into becoming an office cur. " He deliberately pronounced officer as office cur.
"Yea, seems that Starfleet, Starfleet Intelligence, the Starfighter Corps and Marine Corp have a new concept they want to try; build and deploy a Paramilitary Operations team. Akin to late twenty-first century Earth Special Forces or Andorian Am Tal. Don't tell anyone though, supposed to be under wraps. I got concessions when I accepted a Limited Duty Officer slot; I got to pick my team. You were on my list, until I found out Starfleet turned you into a COB/CC candidate. Had to choose another IDMT/Special Ops medic."
William laughed, "Well seems like Starfleet Command finally found a way to rope us into more responsibilities and command ones at that. Didn't know the Corps did Limited Duty Officers though."
"Well guess the idea kind of came about by seeing how well the program works with the Diplomatic Corps and Civilian Affairs worked. Need beings that have just a little bit more power than the Warrant Officers. Limited Duty Officers fit the bill, so ta-dah here I am." said Vespertine in a jovial manner.
William was curious about her assignment and what ship she would be on but knew better than to ask. "See that you are like the rest of the folks on this station, passing through to a new assignment."
"Yep, noticed everyone seems high strung," replied Vespertine as she looked about.
Wiliam just nodded as he slowly began to strum a melody "Well a pending war with a much more technological species tends to make those who have to toe the line and stand the watch on the wall a bit tense." Just then William saw a starship entering a holding pattern to dock with the Starbase. It was the USS Myogi. "Well looks like my new home has arrived. As always, my lady it has been a pleasure. Watch your six, have a feeling we're about to be thrown into another life-or-death brawl."
Vespertine laughed "William haven't we been in a life and death brawl since we committed ourselves to this life. Watch your six and ensure your nuggets are ready for the hell fire ride." Vespertine then got up walked over to Willia and gave him a kiss. "In another life I would have loved to have made you, my mate." She then turned and sashayed away.
William sat dumb struck for a minute. He the roused himself and went to his quarters. Time to get ready for the rodeo that was about to happen.
William, now dressed in his dress uniform, as regulation dictated for an individual reporting for their new duty station, made his way to the umbilical gangplank that led into the Myogi.
