Mission:
The Next Myogi
Location: USS Myogi
Timeline: After 'MCPO William Pitsenbarger: Return to the Myogi, Part Two'
Previously, on Star Trek: Myogi:
"Well, a lot has happened since you were last aboard, aside from the obvious:" Maho motioned to her enlarged belly. "For starters, the threat posed by those who attacked Starfleet Headquarters last year is no more. That being said, as soon as one crisis was resolved, another far more dangerous one has cropped up: To make a long story short, there is now a Dyson sphere located within the Romulan Neutral Zone, specifically at the Iconia system. While we only have a few scant reports publicly available to go off, Starfleet has reason to believe that the Iconians have returned. At this time, the Iconia system is crawling with Herald ships, with the latest estimate putting the number of ships there at forty six thousand."
And now, the continuation:
Pitsenbarger rocked a little on his heels. He knew the current status of their mision as he was personnally briefed prior to coming to the Myogi.
"Why does it seem every damn species in the universe want to pick a fight with the Federation? I mean all we want to do is explore the universe and live in peace." He then looked at the captain, "No disrespect Ma'am but should you really be here on the Myogi, I only ask because of your current condition. I am asking from a medical prespective only, mind you. Not the chauvinistic male prespective, which I might add is I am glad I can only give the female of the human species that nasty little parasite." He hoped the last bit of his statement was received in the good nature ribbing it was meant to be.
"Dr. Ryo and I have been closely monitoring the situation, and if Starfleet changes the recommendations for expectant personnel, we'll reevaluate." Maho responded. "Until then, I am still the most qualified officer to command this ship. Though, I have also spoken with my husband on the possibility of sending him home to earth with the... How did you put it, the little parasite? Once she's able to travel."
William again smiled, "Well Dr. Ryo is the medical authority, with the ability to override any command that falls within the medical sphere; meaning you and your unborn. As for the parasite comment, that was what my ex-wife called it when she was pregnant. Always blamed me for the 'parasite' I inflicted on her, especially when she had morning sickness."
William then looked the captain square in the eyes :Rest assured captain, I will follow all your commands, so long as they are lawful. I will also keep your enlisted crew well trained and in line; to include the 'space apes' otherwise known as marines."
Maho blinked. This likely wouldn't go down well with the corps...
"If your jurisdiction also includes the marine enlisted, you'll want to speak with Captain Beurling on this matter: Some marines are cool with us 'regs' bossing them about, but others aren't. And usually those that aren't get the Corps involved, and then it devolves into a whole bureaucratic mess that I have to clean up." Maho explained. "That being said, though, you might not be able to talk to her today: I just told her after her reporting in turned into a biohazard mess to take it easy: She's in a... Similar condition to me."
William laughed out loud, "My dear captain, I have spent a very good and long portion of my career in Starfleet as a Marine corpsman. Understand also that any and I mean any enlisted on board the U.S.S. Myogi fall under the full authority of Starfleet, to include those members of Starfleet Intelligence, the Starfighters, and of course the beloved Marines. I could quote bible and verse the Starfleet regulations in regards to this, but I will not bore you or imply you slept through that section during command school. I have no intention on stepping on the respective senior or enlisted of those departments or branches. I intend to work with those senior NCO's to ensure a smoothly working ship. I leave their domains to their business, unless it effects the Myogi, I happen to be very good friends with the First Sergeant of the Marines, she saved my life and I did likewise, again a story for a later date. I do know that I feel sorry for those enlisted and NCO's she oversees, she is hell on wheels. So rest assured Ma'am the senior NCO's know how the game is played on a starship; how else do you think Starfleet starships and stations function so well with such diverse groups?"
"What? Now you're going to tell me that what I learned in the Academy about how Starfleet embodies Federation values was a lie as well?" Maho responded half-jokingly. "It's alright: It seems ever since I've taken command of this ship, everything I thought I knew about Starfleet before that point turned out to be either a lie or a half truth. I suppose that's just how thick of a web of misinformation my predecessor managed to weave. But enough about that:"
Maho waved a dismissive hand.
"I don't doubt that the enlisted pull their weight." She said. "In fact, given Starfleet's hierarchical structure, it's usually us officers who give the orders and more often than not, it's the enlisted who carry them out. I'm sure it will be handy to have a link between us officers and you enlisted."
William smiled “Ma’am I found out a very long time ago when I enlisted that Starfleet was a sneaky little bastard of an organization. The recruiter made sure I was fast tracked into becoming a marine corpsman. Since then I have been shipped into some very hairy and straight horror situations, and also seen some of the most beautiful sights. All in all Starfleet isn't so bad a career, just take the commands orders and suggestions with a healthy grain of salt.”
"Maybe so, but hopefully there's one thing that doesn't need to be..." Maho responded, rising from her chair and offering a hand to William: "Welcome back, Master Chief. It's great to have you join us again."
"Thank You Captain. Pleasure to be back and glad you're still as fiesty as ever." replied William with a huge grin and a firm hand shake.
"When you get knocked down, you've got to keep getting back up." Maho responded. "Show them you don't know when to quit. Dismissed."
