Mission:
The Breen
Location: USS Myogi - Conference Room, Deck 1
Timeline: After 'Times Like These (Part 3)'
Previously, on Star Trek: Myogi
"Perhaps it might also behoove us to procure a cloaking device for this mission." Chrirhc suggested. "Poking around at the yard's manifests, I couldn't help but notice that there are several Klingon vessels in the yard that the Empire has ordered to be broken up. Maybe we could try and salvage a cloaking device from one of those ships?"
"Already taken care of," their guest butted in. "An ambassador for the Empire managed to pull some strings with the High Council and have them loan us a set of cloaking devices from their old B'Rel fleet. In his words, he said he owes Captain Takahashi a favor for helping to apprehend the, quote, "dishonorable pirate Iwaki", end quote."
And now, the continuation:
"Set?" Maho asked. "Surely, more than..." Maho factored in the discussed idea of compartmentalizing systems. "Two is unnecessary."
"On the contrary, Chisato continued. "After carefully analyzing the risks, Starfleet Intelligence has deternined that mounting an assault of this magnitude with just a single New Orleans would be too risky- borderline suicidal, even. As such, a small convoy has been furnished to accompany the Myogi on this assignment."
She leaned forward and stole a glance at the time on her PADD. "As a matter of fact, they should be arriving any minute now..."
As if on cue, the prototype USS Alita and a smaller Sao Paulo class vessel dropped out of warp conveniently within view of the conference room's windows. Given that the Myogi was deep within the shipyard, it meant that both ships had to have done some reckless flying to drop out of warp precisely where they needed to be.
"Like clockwork!"
=A="Bridge to Captain Takahashi:"=A= The junior ops officer on the bridge called over Maho's combadge. "We're being hailed by the Alita and the Oorai."
Maho tapped her combadge to answer it.
=A="Put it through to the conference room, Bridge."=A= She instructed.
Within moments of Maho giving the instructions, the viewscreen in the conference room showed a split view of the bridges of the Alita and the Oorai just in time to hear a Rheuysian yard foreman yelling at the two commanders:
"Shokuho! How many times to I have to tell you: No warp flying in the yard! And Nishizumi; I'd expect as much from Captain Shokuho over here, but you better drop that bad habit ASAP!"
"Please, K'Raus; you should be well aware of my penchant for dramatic entrances." Misaki replied rather condescendingly.
"Which is exactly why I'm saying something!" K'Raus responded.
"Oh come on sis!" Miho sighed. "You know I'm a good pilot..."
"Lesson forty one of command:" Maho said flatly. "Never willingly go along with one of Captain Shokuho's stupid stunts."
"You know Captain Misaka made that one up, right?" Misaki replied. "She never could grasp the full extent of my genius..."
"The decision to assign both the Alita and the Oorai to this mission was two-fold," Chisato went on to explain. "For one, the Alita, while not necessarily a capital ship in the vein of the Armitage or Sovereign classes, is nonetheless a carrier, and a pretty robust one at that; having been designed as a bona-fide Ar'Kif fighter, the ship and her crew have already gone and beyond the original design brief, having successfully engaged and destroyed no less than four Ar'Kifs during the engagement over Braxus."
"Plus, the Corps could use all the data they can get for the second ship they're building." Misaki added. "We wouldn't want the Gunma to be a repeat of the Tokyo- Oh..." She trailed off when she realized who she was speaking to.
"No offense taken, Captain." Maho responded.
"On the other hand, the Oorai, along with her Sao Paulo contemporaries, can best be likened to that of a Chow Chow," Chisato continued. "Not as over-powered and over-gunned as the Defiant from which its design as derived, but it still packs some teeth, along with a reinforced space frame that maintains its overall performance without compromising reliability."
"I think you'll find we actually have better firepower than the Defiant class Commander!" Miho protested. It was true, the Sao Paulo class ships strongly resembled the older Defiant class design, but she was much more streamlined and curved. It could easily be mistaken for one even at close range.
Jane followed the exchanges about the Alita and Oorai intently. “Captain,” she said, looking at Maho, “I’d like to request permission to beam over to the Oorai while we’re in transit. I’d like to examine its flight systems up close, if I may.”
"I suppose an arrangement could be made while we're still in Federation space." Maho muttered, turning to Miho on the viewscreen. "What do you say, Imouto-san?"
"Come have a look. This new Class Eleven warp drive is really something. Plus, this thing turns like a dime. I have to keep telling Mako to stop drifting us..."
"I do not drift...." came a rather sleepy sounding voice from in the background. "I'm too tired for this... can I take a nap now..."
Miho sighed in response.
"You mean you don't want to check out the flight systems of the technological marvel that is the Alita as well?" Misaki appeared visibly hurt by Jane wanting to visit the Oorai instead of her vessel. "What other chance are you going to have to say you touched the controls of a prototype starship?"
"Kahless help us..." Ichika sighed as she only now began to realize how full of herself Captain Shokuho was.
“You have me there, Captain,” Jane said, smiling. “No offense intended, it’s that I expect to one day be assigned to something like a Sao Paulo, never a true rarity like the Alita. But if you’ll have me, I’d welcome the opportunity.” Her smile turned into a grin. “Give me half a chance and I’ll have her outmaneuvering Oorai.”
"Well, it's not like the Alita is going to remain a one-off prototype forever." Misaki alluded back to her prior mentioning of the sister ship under construction. "It would be a good thing to get more folks trained on her systems ahead of the Alita class rollout."
"They're already planning a rollout?" Ichika remarked, glancing over at Maho. "I certainly haven't heard anything regarding a mass rollout outside of the Sao Paulo."
"Well, like I said earlier;" Misaki said. "Starfleet was so impressed by the Alita's performance at Braxus that they've greenlit construction of a second ship. They're going to call that one the Gunma."
"I would like to point out that if anyone but me attempts to install that cloaking device on Myogi, that there will be body parts lying around that used to belong to someone else." Ami stated flatly, giving a look at the Captain and Advisor, "Yes, I know that it's not something to be trifled with, but I'm the one that knows Myogi best for something like this and I don't need no help with it unless I ask for it."
''So violent! That's a side of you we don't often see Miss Rori" Kael remarked, amused at her declaration. "Though I suppose that's to be expected when faced with technology that the Federation still cannot replicate''
"Not like the Romulans would be one too pleased if we were to do so," Ichika lamented.
''Humans and Romulans had several wars" Kael mused ''One of them before the Federation was even formed. I don't think a single piece of technology is enough to tip the scales in either direction. But dare I suggest we worry about one war at a time?"
"Speaking of Romulans..." Miho interrupted. "If you haven't heard already. The Romulan Star Empire have joined the Khitomer Accords." she said. "Basically, the Alpha Quadrant powers are allying together against the Iconian's and their Heralds. I heard a rumour that Cardassia and the Ferengi may be doing the same soon."
"It's hard to know whats true in the fog of war. Personally I do not trust alliances of convenience." Kael continued with a recitation "A frenzy of clouds, thrusting down, swallows the sun"
"Regardless, I think we'd be hard-pressed to refuse their offer of an alliance, Doctor," Ichika argued. "After all, times like these call for desperate measures."
Kael rested his chin on his hand "A long time ago, a powerful coalition of warlords was formed in order to depose a tyrant, a man named Dong Zhuo. It didn't work, the coalition collapsed due to its members having different agendas" He stopped himself, not wanting to bore everyone present with ancient Earth history. "I'm just glad the crew is not present to hear how many times the word 'desperate' was uttered in this room today"
Seeing as the doctor just wasn't going to see eye-to-eye on the matter, Maho decided to shift the focus of the meeting to a different subject rather than keep spinning wheels on the subject of the Romulans.
"We can debate all we want on the Romulans' motives, but that discussion should be tabled for another time." She declared firmly, turning to Chisato. "For now, let's keep this discussion pertinent to our orders as they stand: Commander, any idea what we're up against?"
"Thank you, Captain," Chisato nodded as she got up and made her way over to the head of the table. "So, for those of you who aren't already in the know- hi, my name's Chisato, I've been working in Intel for the past... oh, I'd say 8 years, 12 if you wanna count my time in the Academy? I mean, pretty much when I went into this my field of choice was always going to be intel..."
Maho cleared her throat sharply.
"Right, so!" Chisato continued, quickly snapping back on topic. "Since our intel on the target is pretty much non-existent, we're basically going to have to speculate on the basis of what we do have:"
She tapped a few keys on her PADD and brought up a partial holomap of the Khourani System, roughly the location of where the armory was alleged to have been located.
