America at 250 - A Liberal's Perspective
Posted on Sun Jul 5th, 2026 @ 3:11am by Captain Maho Takahashi
Today is the Fourth of July,
And not just any Fourth of July, but an important one at that. July 4, 2026 marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed.
I know I should be happy, and perhaps in an alternate timeline where the 2024 Presidential election had gone differently, I would be. But in this miserable timeline, I'm not. Let me explain:
It may look like I'm a cute anime girl in my profile pics, but I'm actually a 20-something American man. Gasp! Yeah, yeah, I know. Control your shock.
Anyway; in very broad terms, here's why I'm not in the mood to celebrate this year. Hopefully, this makes sense to our international players, as I am typing this up after long day at work, accepting time and a half without question:
I normally don't like to discuss politics, as I trend against the grain of the ruling party over here. Normally that wouldn't be an issue. I believe that we should be allowed to have disagreements, but still find common ground, but the ruling party doesn't believe the same: Instead forcing more and more extreme polarization of US politics. So, when the ruling party decides to make America's semi-quincentennial all about them, it makes it hard for me, as a liberal, to care about such a momentous occasion.
And I know I'm not alone: The ruling regime is one of the most deeply unpopular in our history, and people even on the other side of the political spectrum are finally beginning to see it for what it is. However, I do wonder if it's all too little, too late. I believe the ruling party's reckoning is coming (the only positive thing about all this is that America's 250th falls on a midterm election year), but our country needs to survive all the way until November for there to even be a chance of that happening.
Until then, stay safe out there my fellow Myogi Americans.
Happy Fourth of July, and Happy 250th, America.
