Mission:
The Next Myogi
Location: USS Myogi-A Conference Room
Timeline: January 26, 2400
Military log, Captain Ryosuke Takahashi:
It's been three days since my niece was born, and while my sister-in-law has been recovering, the crews of both Myogis have been hard at work:
Our main power was finally restored a few hours after she gave birth, and since then, we have begun conducting repairs with her Myogi. While so far, Commander Ebisuzawa has been cooperating, I'm afraid that once my sister in law returns to her ship, and their repairs are adequately completed, they might try to return through the anomaly from whence they came.
I've asked Science to conduct studies on the stability of the anomaly and Commander Anzai to schedule a senior staff meeting between our crew only to discuss what we should do with the other Myogi:
End of log.
Ryosuke stood in the Myogi-A's conference room. Since they had gotten main power restored, helm had rotated their ship around so that their shuttlebay faced the other Myogi so flights could run back and forth more efficiently. As a result, the windows of the conference room provided a view of the other Myogi.
From just out of the corner of his eye, he watched as the doors to the conference room snapped open and his Executive Officer, her long, pale green hair pulled back in a low ponytail- a subtle gesture that Ryosuke had come to recognize as her own personal way of mourning the friends and family whose lives had been extinguished in this conflict.
"Just got off speaking with Operations," she reported as she calmly settled into her seat. "Sensor reports indicate that the nearest Iconian patrol is about 240 light years from our current position and heading in the opposite direction; provided they haven't picked up on our energy signature, we should have an adequate amount of time to return Captain Takahashi to her vessel and get back underway."
"Provided Lieutenant Zephyrin has cleared Captain Takahashi to return to her vessel." Ryosuke responded. "You know as well as I how thorough she can be."
"Can't say I blame her at this point," the XO sighed as she sat back and crossed her arms. "What with how badly things have been going for us these past few years, we need all the allies that we can spare..."
"Precisely what I was thinking." Ryosuke nodded.
It was as if speaking the devil’s name and they shall appear, because Minerva walked in next, a smile on her face as she did so. It was one of the first genuine smiles that anyone had seen her with since the news had come of her last sister’s death the previous year. “Cap, before you ask: Your niece has responded well to the treatment and I’m comfortable signing a clean bill of health for her and Captain Takahashi. All she has to do now is keep growing and she’ll be stronger than the rest of us.”
"Excellent news, Lieutenant." Ryosuke responded, a rare, modest smile appearing on his battle-hardened face. "Have a seat; we'll kick this off once everyone else arrives."
“Sounds good to me, boss.” Minerva made a stop by the replicator for a cup of Java, “But we really need to instill in them what they’re about to be getting into. Their medical team is a sitting duck, ‘Triage, treat and evacuate’ is their credo. Wish we had the luxury, don’t you?”
Next in was Nezuko, her speaking PADD in hand. She barely used it anymore, unless the thought she was trying to communicate was more complicated. After years of service together, the senior staff and most of her department could read her sign language. It was only for the very technical reports that she needed the precision and guaranteed comprehension of her text-to-speech application.
She nodded to the others and took her seat. Her eyes were bloodshot and she looked tired, having been awake for days to restore power. Thankfully that was done and she could crash for an hour or three after this meeting.
The doors swished open once again, a young woman with honey caramel coloured hair tied in a low ponytail, brown eyes and pale skin walked in. Her stance was that of someone who came across as nervous, and seemed more like a fish out of water than a Starfleet Officer in the middle of a war. Lieutenant Monica Everett, the Myogi's Chief Science Officer was known for her brilliant mind, and master in the field of mathematics and scientific studies. However often she was quiet, socially nervous and didn't cope well in conversation.
"M..m... morning!" She eventually blurted out, attempting to greet them people in the room as her cheeks flushed and her eyes averting her gaze to the deckplates as usual. Hastily the young Science Officer shuffled over to an empty seat and quickly sat down, staring down at the table.
"Good morning, Lieutenant." Ryosuke returned the greeting calmly and efficiently. "How goes the study of the integrity of the anomaly from which the other Myogi emerged?"
Monica was rather skittish. "Its... going..." she averted her eyes nervously. "Well as can be..."
Once the rest of the senior staff had filed in, Ryosuke turned to face his gathered crew; hands clasped behind his back.
"Right, now that everyone's here:" He began. "As I'm sure you've all been aware; our task for the past three days..."
Ryosuke glanced over at Minerva and Monica:
"Well, for most of us, anyways:" He continued. "Has been to help the crew of our predecessor get their ship back up and operational. However, now that that task is nearing completion, we must start to turn our attention to what comes after we've done all we can for the other Myogi."
{Options simple,} Nezuko signed. {Other Myogi stays. Other Myogi goes home. Presuming they can.}
"I say send them home with all the information we've got, Temporal Prime Directive be damned." Minerva stated outright, "Give their timeline a chance to be ready for what's coming for them, because we sure as shit didn't succeed here. At the least, they get a chance to tell their families they love them again, a chance to run if that's their choice."
"With all due respect, Captain... I think I have to side with Miss Nezuko and Miss Zephyrin on this one," the XO admitted. "Sure, their presence here could help to bolster our dwindling numbers, but we're already on our last legs as it is- is one antiquated vessel going to make all that much of a difference... or just protract what fleeting time we still have left?"
Ryosuke lowered his head. Clearly, this was not what he was wanting to hear:
"Must I be the one to remind everyone in this room of everything we have lost and continued to lose every day?" He asked. "I'm not a believer in chance, but the fact that we were out here assisting the Invincible at the precise moment a ship we thought destroyed three years ago turns up. If there are any non-vengeful gods left, I'd say they handed us a game changing opportunity, and we'd be foolish to let it slip through our hands like a grain of sand."
"I agree with the captain:"
It was the Myogi-A's Chief Engineer, Robert Lucas. It was he and his engineering teams who had overseen repairs to the other Myogi.
"Have all of you forgotten the protomatter bombs the Iconians dropped on your homes??" He continued, passionate anger in his voice. "This shouldn't even be a debate! If it's just one ship or James Kirk and whole armada of Constitution class cruisers, we need all the help we can get against these bastards!"
