"Relaying instructions to the NightKids." Ops replied.

And now, the continuation:

[USS Alita]

"Enemy shields are holding!" The tactical officer on the Alita reported the results of the onslaught.

"Keep up the barrage." Misaki ordered.

[USS Myogi]

"The Alita and her fighters are going for a target saturation approach!" Chrirhc reported. "They may be trying to test the limits of the enemy's shields."

"Follow their lead," Ichika ordered. "Ops, instruct the Nightkids to assume a flanking formation."

"Tell them to concentrate fire on these co-ordinates." Kurumi said from tactical. "If we can punch through their shields, we can do some damage. Maybe even disable or destroy them." She tapped at the tactical console, sending them all her targeting solution.

"Relaying instructions to the NightKids." Ops replied.

[Space]

The orders came in as the two wingpairs of the Valkyries from Myogi were flitting around so as not to make themselves easy pilots and Alisha shivered as ice ran up and down her spine. "Sodak on me, Chaser, Banshee, take the port flank, targetting data loaded." She broke towards the starboard side of the ship, keeping her fighter moving in three dimensions and finally punching the engines as they approached the range, shooting out ahead of Myogi as she began to pump energy into the defense platform's shields.

Looping onto the other side, Mia had been using the etheric rudder to shake the rear of her fighter in Chaser's direction while laughing with her comm off, but at the voice of Alisha settled down and began to maneuver in earnest, flicking her wings back and forth as she shot ahead of Chaser and timed a double torpedo launch in conjunction with the phaser fire.

Pippa was right behind, in formation, timing her shots with Mia's -- and laughing at Banshee's antics.

Dakota was right beside Alisha, synchronizing her shots with Jem and Chaser, and firing off one of her photon torpedoes between phaser blasts to deal some extra damage.

[USS Alita]

"Myogi's fighters are moving to assist!" Tactical reported.

"We've certainly gotten their attention." Misaki replied. "Auxiliary power to shields: Helm, set a course for those weapons platforms!"

The helmsman's fingers glided over the smooth surface of his console as he brought the Alita about, placing it on a collision course for the weapons platforms.

As the Alita entered range of the platforms, the weapons installations began to fire upon the Alita, but also the Quases pursuing it.

"Shields are holding for now." Tactical reported as the Alita shook, causing sparks to rain down on the bridge crew. "Sixty two percent!"

"Prepare to reroute power to the cloaking device!" Misaki ordered. "Helm, prepare to make a full stop on my mark!"

As the Alita drew closer to the weapons platforms, the ship took another blast from the installations.

"Shields down to forty nine percent!" Tactical reported.

"Mark!" Misaki yelled.

At nearly point blank range, the Alita suddenly came to a full stop and rapidly cloaked as it did so. The Alita's sudden disappearance confused the weapons platforms, which refocused their fire on the Iconian ships until the Quases exploded, taking with them multiple weapons platforms.

"I don't believe it!" Chrirhc laughed. "The Alita's just punched a hole through the weapons platforms!"

"Follow them through!" Maho ordered. "This might be our only window!"

"Following!" Jane said. The ship pivoted at her input, arcing toward the opening. "Arrival in fifteen seconds."

"We should probably go for their communications relay next," Chisato advised as she held onto Chrirhc's chair for dear life. "Provided the Iconians haven't already called for backup, we need to take it out before they have the chance to do so."

"Do we even know which structure is their coms relay?" Ichika asked.

"Onee-Chan, One-Eighteen mark One-Two." Ami suddenly blurted out to Sinclair at the helm, "I've got the relay station localized, triangulating the instructions to the weapons platforms." A few keystrokes and she pulled up an image on the main screen, but to the side, "I think I can jam the transmission, get me thirty seconds."

"One-eighteen mark one-two, confirmed!" Jane said to Ami. "I see it."

"Take us in!" Maho ordered. "Ops, signal the Oorai to follow our lead!"

"Yes, ma'am!" Jane said.

"Relaying instructions to Oorai." Ops responded before the Myogi rocked, causing sparks to erupt from several consoles and debris to rain down on the bridge crew.

"Targeting their communications array." Kuurmi said. "Phasers locked."

[USS Oorai]

The Oorai barrell rolled over to their portside to avoid incoming enemy fire. "Bring us aroung Mako!" Miho called out from her chair. The black haired officer nodded as the ship turned quickly in space. It zoomed over the dorsal of the Myogi, and sped ahead.

"Oorai, to Myogi." Lieutenant Takebe said from the communications console. "We acknowledge your targeting solution and engaging the enemy."

"Copy that, Oorai." Ops from Myogi replied. "Myogi out."

"Full speed!" Miho ordered. "Fire when ready!"

Bursts of bright orange phaser cannon fire erupted from the Oorai's forward cannons. One after another they struck the point in which the Myogi had targeted. They were quickly followed by several barrages of bright bluish white torpedoes that ripped through the enemy hull. Explosions erupted where their weapons had impacted as the Herald ship seemed to drift slightly.

The Oorai broke off their attack run, looping back to avoid collision with the enemy ship. Several bright purple beams bouncing off their shields and ablative armour causing the ship to rock.

"Oorai to Myogi. We've opened the door for you!"

[USS Myogi]

"Ackowledged Oorai." Kurumi replied. She targeted the Myogi's weapons on the now weekened Herald ship. Her eyes narrowed as her fingers ran across the console. She was lining up the perfect shot, if she was right then a well aimed barrage of weapons fire could cause a chain reaction and result in the destruction of the Herald ship. "Firing!"

Bright orange beams of phaser fire darted across the void of space, smacking into the hull of the Herald ship. They were shortly followed by yet more torpedo fire that burst from their forward launchers.

"Direct hit. I'm detecting secondary explosions within the Herald vessel. I suggest we don't be near it when it goes boom." Kurumi suggested.

"Get us clear of the blast radius!" Maho ordered. "Full impulse!"

"Full impulse, aye!" Jane replied, putting all available power into impulse and hoping for the best that it would be enough.

Within moments of the Myogi clearing the blast radius, the communications relay exploded. Perhaps this would buy time for the strike force with the Iconians not able to immediately call upon reinforcements to simply wipe them out.

"Let's hope that's bought us the time we need!" Maho remarked. "What else are we looking at?"

"If I remember the data burst correctly, they did allude to at least 5 or six substations around the perimeter that allegedly housed some kind of shielding array," Chisato reported. "Not sure what they're using it for, but if I were building some kind of doomsday weapon, I'd probably want some extra reassurance that the facility that I'm building it in isn't taken out in one hit!"

"Then we need to start targeting those substations." Chrirhc said. "But we shouldn't stretch ourselves so thin as to attack every one at once. We'd be best off targeting two of them at a time. Unless..."

"Unless what, Commander?" Maho asked.

"The Alita has enough fighters that we could potentially mount an auxiliary craft-based offensive on the substations as well. Maybe we take them out in a pincer movement." Chrirhc suggested.

"We need those substations destroyed as quickly as possible." Maho decreed. "Contact the Alita and our fighters. Let them know the plan."

"Aye, sir." Chrirhc replied.

[Space]

The majority of the action was experienced by the small Starfighters whizzing around the larger capital ships and providing target saturation for the Iconian weapons systems.

'Mad Cow', the leader of the Alita's 'red flight' squadron, received over her radio her next orders and target, relayed from the Myogi.

"Copy that, Alita." Mad Cow signed off on the tower frequency before switching back to ship-to-ship. "Mad Cow to Jem: Have your pilots form up with Red Flight. We're going on a strafing run. Blue flight; get those torpedoes ready. You're right behind us."

"Copy that, Mad Cow." The leader of Blue Flight replied. "You heard her, Blue Flight: Torpedoes ready!"

"Copy, Mad Cow." Alisha broke her fighter to the left, feathering through the swarm of Alita's fighters as the other three that had launched from Myogi followed along. She was dancing her fighter around as she came in on the rear of Red Flight's formation, purple weapons fire spattering around in among the flitting gnats that the fighters were to the Iconian ships. "Echelon left, evasion pattern Epsilon-Three." She said softly to her fight, which would alter their efforts to avoid incoming fire, "Myogi flight in position, torpedoes armed and ready."

Red Flight and the NightKids combined made their way towards their first target: A structure identified as the first substation. The smaller craft were putting themselves at greater risk moving away from the cover of the capital ships, especially as the fire they were subjected to wasn't letting up.

It was moments like this that Dakota lived and trained for: Being in the heat of battle, showered by enemy fire, heading unrelenting towards one's target.

"All wings, let 'em have it!" Mad Cow ordered.

Banshee took the lead, leapfrogging Jem to get into better firing position, her phaser pulses playing across the shielding of the substation while the fighter danced in tandem with her flight leader. Below her, Alisha's tubes flashed as she launched torpedoes in the wake of the phaser lights, weakening the shields even further.

Dakota unleashed the fury of her Valkyrie's phaser cannons, softening the enemy's defenses before unloading a portion of her torpedo payload to make it hurt.

Pippa's own craft did the same. Pulses from her phasers pummeled Iconian shields, disrupting them enough for a couple of quantum torpedoes to break through.
