HAPPY NEW YEAR!

That's right, folks: We have made it to 2026! And this year is bound to be a special one indeed, as 2026 marks our fifth anniversary year! Given the sheer market oversaturation in our hobby these days, any sim that makes it to five years deserves to be celebrated. And the fact that the Myogi has reached this milestone is a testament to your dedication and long term commitment to our game! We wouldn't have made it to 5 years without folks sticking around this long, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you. And here's to the next five years so that we may be celebrating the Myogi's 10th anniversary in 2031, just like Tokyo did this year.
Speaking of Tokyo, this offers the perfect opportunity to reflect back on the year that was 2025. Since 2025 was the Tokyo's 10th anniversary year, I sort of jumped the gun on some of the stuff I should have held out for 2026, like telling the sim's origin story and our history as a sim. Really, not enough has happened for me to justify repeating all that stuff if I'm only adding on one extra year's worth of content. I still stand by what I wrote, though, so if you want to the full history of our sim, you can find it here and here, in addition to what I'm about to say: Though, do bear in mind those statistics I gave in one of those earlier news items are outdated by now.
So, starting 2025 off with a bang, last Christmas (that's Christmas 2024 if you're reading this in 2026 and beyond), the legend himself, Jetfreak-7, reached out to me wanting to make me a free render of the Myogi: Obviously, this was way too good of an opportunity to pass up on, so I said absolutely, and after a bit of back and forth, we came up with what you see on our welcome page; here it is in (most of) it's full glory: (And yes, it can go MUCH bigger than this:)

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Many thanks once again to JetFreak-7 for being intrigued enough by our game to make this stunning rendering of our ship!

When 2025 began, we were in the middle of our abbreviated second season, in our second episode, Captains and Contraband. As stated previously, that mission wound up ending on a cliffhanger. What I failed to mention back then was that the ending of this mission brought about the repeal of a long standing, yet controversial policy: Our participation points policy.
Top give some context for newer folks, back in late 2023, I had a serious problem: The Tokyo was progressing at great speed, and all efforts to slow it down had failed. Knowing where the Tokyo was heading, and wanting in on it, I made the only decision I felt I could make, and that was to try and speed the Myogi up. Following the conclusion of our failed Initial D mission, The Fast & The Fleet, on October 16, I implemented sweeping reforms to our activity requirements. Some of these reforms are still in effect today; namely our strictly-enforced four day tagging window.
Alongside the activity requirements, I came up with a tool to help our playbase through the difficult transition from a sim with modest activity to a fast paced game, and that was our participation points system. Basically, outside of the command staff, no position on the game was guaranteed from mission to mission. If players wished to retain their positions, they would need to play the game for them. If they didn't there were consequences for not playing, escalating up to removal from the game if they failed a certain number of consecutive missions. The system was about as fair as I could make it, yet it still drew criticism.
By late 2024, we overcame the final hurdle of our transition to a fast paced game, and by that time, I felt that the points system had served its purpose as a tool of transition. So, in a gesture of good will towards you guys, when Captains and Contraband came to its cliffhanger ending in February, the points system in its entirety was repealed, and the crew award I had introduced as part of the system was retooled into something discretionary that I could hand out to highlight exemplary activity.

About a month into our next mission, wrapping up our then-current Separatist Crisis arc, we were told we would be getting a new domain: Harperhold.com. While the transition certainly came with its challenges (a few of us, myself included, are now no longer able to tag at work on our phones unless we disable our wi-fi and work on cellular data) this switch was borne from research that a .com domain was less prone to spoofing than our previous .net domain. And I must admit, ever since our switchover, I haven't seen as much spam emails coming through our now completely disabled contact form as I have previously.

By late June, the mission that I had written in our fourth anniversary newsletter as our "current mission" came to a close, and we began our third season with a time travel mission: Now, I had had the idea to do one ever since we started, but it went through several iterations before we came to its final form. Once we arrived in the alternate future, to truly sell the immersion, I reworked our website into a "fake" Myogi-A website. Unfortunately, I don't think that did too many favors for recruitment.
During this mission, Maho finally gave birth to her daughter, Kyoko Takahashi. This had been an event I had been planning for for over 5 years, having started it back in 2020 before the Myogi was even its own sim. So, that moment was really special for me.
Which brings us to the present:

Our current mission, The Breen, is gearing up to take us on a daring endeavor into Breen space to destroy an Iconian weapons facility. I hope you guys are excited for this, because this could be a lot of fun!
Of course, 2025 is going to let us go just yet, for literally two days ago at the time of writing this, Theta Fleet has come out with a new posting policy. In light of these changes, I have also elected to make some revisions to our own posting policy to better reflect what the fleet expects. You can check out the revisions and freshen up on our sim's rules while you're at it on our rules page, found here!
So, what lies ahead?
Well, I'm glad you asked!
As revealed at the very beginning of this newsletter, 2026 marks five years since the Myogi's founding as its own sim! And to celebrate, I'm pulling out all the stops! In addition to the special anniversary patch, which will be proudly displayed on our home page throughout 2026, I will also be running a special character development side mission for you all: Into Our Past!

Hang on a minute; isn't this just a ripoff of Younger Years from the Tokyo? Just with a different name?
Admittedly, yes, but it's not like the concept itself is wholly original! I've seen plenty of sims with character development missions running alongside their main stories. In fact, our former Pegasus Fleet fleetmate, the USS Chimera (and also Lieutenant Rori's sim! ;)) which will also be celebrating 5 years in 2026, has been doing this from the start. And it's that mission from which our mission's name is lifted, as something of a throwback to our short-lived Pegasus Fleet days. ;)
This mission is the reason why Christmas Vacation's return is being cut short, as I intend to get this mission going as early into the New Year as I can, and when it does, it will be running until our sixth anniversary on March 22, 2027. Speaking of March 22, I do have one more very special thing planned for the actual anniversary itself... But that's something you're just going to have to wait until March to find out! Gotta keep some secrets around here... ;)
Anyway,
Happy New Year, and here's to Five Years of the USS Myogi!
